So we’ve had a little break from blogging (ahem 2 years!) but we’re back, and our little corner of the internet has a brand new look and feel.

We may not have been writing over the last couple of years but that certainly doesn’t mean we haven’t been travelling…

What have we been up to?

We have been gallivanting around the globe in true Two for the Road fashion, using our holiday allowance to the max. We now have an ample list of stories to tell you about our adventures!

Since we last spoke we’ve visited 6 new countries and have been back to the U.S a couple of times for the epic road trips that the country is known for. We’re now up to 40 states on our U.S scratch map!

I’m so excited to start writing about some of the amazing places we’ve visited and hopefully inspire you to visit them too.

We’ve also been making plans for the future and working hard to kick-start our dreams…

Since we returned to the UK in November 2013 we’ve been working away full time and saving money like we did before, but with no real purpose. We harboured vague dreams of further long-term travel and a piece of land somewhere in retirement but other than that, life at home has been pretty quiet.

But in 2016 something prompted us to get a bit more serious about what we want for the future and firm up our plans on how to get there.

What’s next for us?

The plan is to continue hardcore saving and investing and work on streamlining our life in the UK so that our outgoings are minimal – all with the goal of financial independence.

What is this financial independence I speak of?

Financial independence means having enough assets – cash, investments, property etc. so if you wanted to, you’d never have to work another day in your life. It doesn’t mean you won’t, but it gives you the choice – and we’re all about the choice.

There is obviously much more to it than that, but this is fundamentally what it boils down to. It can sound like an overwhelming task but us, along with a host of other people, aim to prove that ordinary people earning ordinary salaries can achieve this.

We’re going to be covering this area in much more detail going forward so you can follow along on our journey.

What will the revamped Two for the Road look like?

The site will continue to have a travel focus, our wanderlust shows no sign of disappearing and we love sharing our experiences with you.

But we’ll also add a second focus into the site – sharing tips and experiences on saving money, scaling back on expenditure and aiming for financial independence in the long term.

The saving money side of things is something we’ve done for years and we’re keen to share our experiences (the good, the bad and the ugly) with you guys.

But the financial independence part is something we’re learning as we go and talking about it on the blog will hold us accountable to our goals and hopefully introduce this out of the ordinary path to a new audience.

After this post we’ll dive right back into our usual blogging, so in the meantime take a look around the site and let us know what you think.

We’d love to hear your feedback so we can continue to improve the site.
