Towards the back end of our trip around the U.S we were starting to flag a little, 4.5 months of constant travel, lots of activities every day and the same amount of sleep we used to get in full time jobs was taking its toll, we were looking forward to a mini break from travelling. I’d booked a stop in the Cook Islands back when we were first planning the trip purely because it was cheaper than flying to Auckland, NZ directly and so we’d have an onward flight to show the U.S border control. It also meant that we got to visit the South Pacific on the way which was an added bonus.
